Movie fans – win tickets to ‘The Mechanic’ before it opens, courtesy of The Urbane Life

Jason Statham is Arthur "The Mechanic" Bishop in the new CBS Films action adventure flick. You can see it first, and free.

There’s something inherently dangerous and intriguing about an action adventure flick that draws us into the life of a hitman.

In 1972, Charles Bronson starred in the now-classic genre flick The Mechanic about a conflicted assassin who lost his mentor and reluctantly gains a partner in his mentor’s vengeful son.

This month, CBS Films offer up a modern day reboot of the cult favorite starring Jason Statham in the lead as Arthur Bishop, the hitman known as “The Mechanic.”

Urbane Life readers – you’ve got a shot at seeing this one on us.

All you have to do is leave us a comment below sharing your favorite film featuring a hitman or assassin and tell us why you found it so engaging.

Is it the Bride in Kill Bill I and II who keeps your interest through a total of two Tarantino films? Are you more apt to choose Ben Kingsley in a dark comedy like You Kill Me? It’s up to you – just give us your perspective – and your email. We’ll need it to send you the free movie passes (and that’s all it will be used for – we promise).

Passes will be given on a first-come, first-served basis so hurry. When we run out – they’re gone. And we’d like to give out as many as possible so you can all check out The Mechanic and then let us know what you think of it!

Here’s  synopsis:

Arthur Bishop (Jason Statham) is a ‘mechanic’ – an elite assassin with a strict code and unique talent for cleanly eliminating targets.  It’s a job that requires professional perfection and total detachment, and Bishop is the best in the business.  But when his mentor and close friend Harry (Donald Sutherland) is murdered, Bishop is anything but detached.  His next assignment is self-imposed – he wants those responsible dead.

His mission grows complicated when Harry’s son Steve (Ben Foster) approaches him with the same vengeful goal and a determination to learn Bishop’s trade.  Bishop has always acted alone but he can’t turn his back on Harry’s son.  A methodical hit man takes an impulsive student deep into his world and a deadly mentorship is born.  But while in pursuit of their ultimate mark, deceptions threaten to surface and those hired to fix problems become problems themselves.

Jason Statham (The Expendables, The Italian Job) and Ben Foster (The Messenger, 3:10 to Yuma) star, alongside Donald Sutherland (The Italian Job) and Tony Goldwyn (The Last House on the Left), in The Mechanic for CBS Films in association with Millennium Films.  A Chartoff Winkler Production and Nu Image Production, Simon West (Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, Con Air) directs from a screenplay by Richard Wenk (16 Blocks) and Lewis John Carlino (1972’s The Mechanic, story also by Lewis John Carlino).

The advanced screening will be held in Birmingham later this month. So get commenting. Good luck!

I always liked Josh Hartnett as Slevin Kelevra from “Lucky # Slevin”. It’s awesome because you don’t even know he’s an assassin until halfway through the movie, and his partnership with Bruce Willis’s character Mr. Goodkat is brutal, hilarious, and touching, all at the same time. Highly recommended, in other words.

Definitely Leon (the Professional). Simply a fantastic film. Jean Reno as the flawless hitman whose fatherly instincts get brought out by the young Natalie Portman. Gary Oldman playing one of the best bad guys ever. Well-directed, well-acted, just all around a great film.

oh so many to choose from! whats better than watching someone get PAID to kill a bad-guy (or girl, for that matter!). ok, stay with me here…theres ‘pulp fiction’ (cleaning brains out of leather seats, classic!), ‘in bruges’ (drugs, dwarf, movie sets!), ‘smoking aces’ (a drug addicted sweating ari from entourage, alicia keys, vegas!), SO many more to pick!

The Professional – Natalie Portman & Jean Reno. The movie was beautiful because the professional assassin Leon reluctantly takes care of 12-year-old Mathilda, a neighbor whose parents are killed, and teaches her his trade. The dialog, cinematography & performances was visually stunning.

Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness. For he is truly his brother’s keeper and the finder of lost children. “No Country for Old Men”
Aton Chigurh (Javier Bardem) is one of the most amoral, evil psychopaths the big screen has ever seen… Sporting an absurd haircut and brandishing a pressurized weapon that’s used to murder cattle, he pursues his mission to track down every man who stumbled upon $2 million belonging to the mafia… only to return the money to its rightful owners.

I liked the 2007 “The Hitman” with Timothy Olyphant. It was the first hitman movie that I saw that I liked. Being a hitman for the organization, the tables were soon turned and the organization went after him. He took care of business, what a resourceful guy! Not bad to look at either!

Classics are always best. Charles Bronson in Death Wish sequels. He was smooth, calculating and cunning in each movie.

  • Robert F.

I have to go with 2 because I can’t decide a favorite. Tom Cruise is horrible most of the time but his performance in Collateral as an assassin getting driven around in a taxi cab is GENIUS!!! Very well acted and an original concept. 2nd Matt Damon as Jason Bourne in the Bourne Trilogy, LOVE IT! What’s better than someone who looks like they would be picking grapefruits at a grocery store, that turns out to lethal a lethal dose of action-packed adrenaline death? Nothing!

  • Dennis Fassett

Jean Reno as “The Professional”. He carried that stupid plant around the entire movie.

I really liked Road To Perdition. It starred Tom Hanks and Jude Law, and I was fascinated by the cnnection between these two characters. Both were hitmen. Mirmatt@aol.com

The Professional. I mean Jean Reno and Portman!? Awesome combination. Reno looks tough as nails and the cover art kind of says it all. I’m glad Disney didn’t steal this and make it into some slapstick comedy.

Geena Davis in The Long Kiss Goodnight!

  • Mark M Johnson

My most favorite film featuring a hit man or assassin is without a shadow of a doubt, Pulp Fiction. In my opinion, Pulp fiction is one of the greatest films of all time falling in with all the much older great classics, and I never tire of watching it. With Samuel L. Jackson as Mr. Pitt, and John Travolta as Vincent Vega, two of the coolest hit men in film history. The film’s dialogue flows so naturally that you hardly remember you’re just watching actors reading lines. Then, there’s Mr. Pitt reciting the now famous Ezekiel 25:17, the entire opening scene storyline just boggles the mind with it’s complexity, detail, and the amazing performances by Jackson and Travolta. Now, writing this has inspired me to view it once more, thanks!
