Renewable energy is a major concern in everyday living. People are constantly debating how they can “go green” and live a more environmentally friendly lifestyle. But breaking down the basics is often missed, so we’ve done it for you:
Chances are that you have the opportunity to support the growth of some or many of these energy sources – with your wallet. Consider these products that have made their way onto the radar.
- Solar Power: Solar powered chargers are everywhere, attaching themselves to book bags and more. On this smaller scale, solar-powered chargers can be cost-effective. They allow us to cut our energy consumption on-the-go while powering mobile phones, laptop computers, PDAs, iPods and more.
Wind-Powered Gadget Charger- Wind Power: Handheld wind turbines can be attached to various small devices while you’re one the go. Consider the energy produced while walking, driving, or bike riding (small, but works!). With devices this size you can charge cameras, mobile phones, and other small electronic devices.
- Geothermal: Okay, so this one isn’t necessarily something you can throw in your pocket. But, as a voter, keep an eye on geothermal energy as you’re sure to see funds allocated toward this (or its research) in and around Congress.
- Transportation: Buying a new car any time soon? Consider the Volt. Hybrid engines seem to be the way to go, particularly if you drive a lot. Helping the environment and saving cash is definitely a favorite of mine.
- Biofuels: Did you know you can create bio diesel at home? Seriously. I’m not that confident I could pull that off – even with the best instructions. If you think you can do it, PLEASE let me know how that goes and what your results are.
