Blues Fest comes to Rosie’s in Ferndale

Rosie O’Grady’s is always a fun spot for food and drink. Starting January 27, it will also be a featured venue for the Ferndale Blues and Music Festival. Call it a food fest too, if you consider that this nine-day event includes more than 25 bands, plus DJs, at 22 Ferndale restaurants and pubs.

Rosie’s specializes in mouth watering appetizers, juicy Angus burgers, coal-fired NY style pizza, and assorted other sports bar fare. As you’d expect, the fish and chips are first-class, as are the nachos and salads. Rosie’s is also great for kicking back and watching whatever sporting event you choose, with a staggering number of high def tvs, and a comfy outdoor patio.

Rosie O'Grady's Burger

On my last visit, I had the smokehouse burger—a hand formed patty of freshly ground beef, grilled to a perfect medium rare and topped with sliced ham, bbq sauce and cheddar. Our table also ordered a couple pizzas, which everyone enjoyed.

As part of the music fest, on Sunday, January 29, Rosie’s will feature the Linda Piccoli Group, 7-9 p.m. This is the group’s third straight year at the festival. A native Detroiter, Linda and her quintet explore a Great American Songbook of blues and jazz from the 20s through the 50s. Some of Linda’s early influencers were legends like Ella Fitzgerald, Dee Dee Bridgewater, and Nancy Kelly. Linda takes on a variety of jazz styles, does some scat, and promises some interesting surprises as well.

My Pal Val

On Thursday February 2nd, Rosie’s will host My Pal Val (formerly Neptune), a Detroit-based trio with a fresh take on the alternative/experimental styles of 90s groups like Sonic Youth and Pavement, while incorporating bass driven riffs reminiscent of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Rosie’s is located at 279 W Nine Mile, Ferndale.  248.591.9163
